We Believe

At Cornerstone, we believe that
     in essentials, unity;
     in non-essentials, liberty;
     in all things, charity.
                                ~Augustine (354-430 AD)

We have a generous orthodoxy based in trinitarian theology that is rooted in the Scriptures and is consistent with the ancient creeds of the church.

Even though we prefer to state our beliefs in a story (narrative) form, we have listed them below in bullet points.

WE BELIEVE . . .

• In one holy, loving, all-powerful, and gracious Creator God who exists in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

• That the Bible is the inspired Word of God, fully authoritative for all matters of faith and practice.

• That Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully human, is both Lord and Savior.

• That Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross for human sin, that he was raised bodily on the third day, and that he ascended to heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.

• That Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead and to reign over all things.

• In the Holy Spirit, who brings sinners to repentance, who gives eternal life to believers, and who lives in them to conform them to the image of Jesus Christ.

• That Christians should gather in regular fellowship and live lives of faith that make evident the good news that humans enter the kingdom of God by putting their trust in Jesus Christ.

• In the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

• That salvation comes not by works, but only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

 • In the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

The History of Cornerstone

Cornerstone began as a congregation of the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) in 1952.  We adopted a local church name about a decade after WCG reformed its theology and was accepted into the National Association of Evangelicals.

Cornerstone is now a community church in Lemon Grove, CA that seeks to impact and bless the local and global communities around us.
Our Denomination:
The Worldwide Church of God

The Worldwide Church of God is a Christian denomination with about 42,000 members, worshiping in more 900 congregations in almost 100 nations and territories.

In the early 1930s, Herbert Armstrong began a ministry that eventually became the Worldwide Church of God. He had many unusual doctrines. These he taught so enthusiastically that eventually more than 100,000 people attended weekly services. After he died in 1986, church leaders began to realize that many of his doctrines were not biblical. These doctrines were rejected, and the church is now in full agreement with the statement of faith of the National Association of Evangelicals.

Their main office is in Glendora, California. www.wcg.org
