About Us

We are seeking to be a transformative missional community of faith.

Our Mission:
We will live like Jesus, love like Jesus and lead people to Jesus.

Our Vision:
We envision Cornerstone Community Church being a movement of devoted Jesus followers using their time, talents, energies and resources to reach youth and their families by offering love, support and guidance in their spiritual growth and development.

Imagine. . .

Imagine a place where you are warmly welcomed and it is truly a safe place to be yourself ~ no matter your age, your race, your background, your appearance or your beliefs.

Imagine a community that gathers out of the desire to live relationally with God and with each other instead of attending a church out of guilt and shame.

Imagine a place where people can’t wait to gather to share what they have been learning and living during the week, to discuss scriptures they are wrestling with, and to link arms with others who are grieving or rejoicing.

Imagine a place where the people are ethnically diverse and they value being knit together as a body of believers who truly respect each other's viewpoints and care for one another.

Imagine a way of learning where people are challenged not only by the pastor, but by each other.

Imagine digging into the Bible together to discover the implication of the text to each person individually and to the entire community of faith.

Imagine having the opportunity to dialogue with the pastor and others on Tuesday evenings in a collaborative effort to develop the Sunday morning message ~ and everyone is invited.

Imagine a place where the power of the microphone is shared.

Imagine an environment where you are not told what to think, but are encouraged to think -- to ask questions and grapple with concepts, doubts, ideas and beliefs -- together.

Imagine a way of doing church that not only keeps you awake during services but also invites you to participate, contribute, engage and share.

Imagine sitting in the "round” or "semi-round" and facing one another in order to facilitate openness, honesty, trust and a sense of community instead of in a theater style that promotes performance.

Imagine a group of people using a community prayer guide to pray for the same person all week long, and each member of the community having the opportunity to be the prayer focus for one week.

Imagine a place that loves, values and cherishes youth ~ where around 40% of the Worship Gathering on Sundays is age 18 or under.

Imagine a place where every member of the community is encouraged to be a servant leader and a minister of reconciliation.

Imagine a place that not only says they value grace, but they cooperate with God in living out grace with one another.

Imagine an open communion table where all who seek to live in relationship with the Triune God and with one another share in the symbols Christ left as a remembrance.

This is the kind of place and the kind of people that Cornerstone is seeking to become.

The History of Cornerstone

Cornerstone began as a congregation of Grace Communion International (formerly known as the Worldwide Church of God) in 1952.  It adopted a local church name about a decade after the denomination reformed its theology and was accepted into the National Association of Evangelicals.

Cornerstone is now a community church in Lemon Grove, CA that seeks to bless the local communities in San Diego and make an impact on global communities as well.
Cornerstone's Denomination:
Grace Communion International

Grace Communion International (formerly known as the Worldwide Church of God) is a Christian denomination with about 47,000 members, worshiping in more 900 congregations in almost 100 nations and territories.

This denomination began in 1934 and went through major doctrinal reformation in the 90's.  GCI is currently a member of the National Association of Evangelicals.

In April 2009, our denomination changed its name in the United States from Worldwide Church of God to Grace Communion International.  This name better reflects who we are and what we teach.
